Protect Your Energy: Why Obsidian Is the Stone to Wear When You Work With People
Share
Why Obsidian is the stone every woman who gives so much of herself should know
There are some jobs where you don’t just work with people.

You hold space for them.
If you’re a Nurse, Pilates instructor, hairdresser, beautician, therapist, nail technician, massage therapist, coach — or you spend your days working closely with other women — you’ll know exactly what we mean.
For a nurse the energy protection requirement is clear right from the moment you walk into work but for many other professions the appointment might begin with a haircut, a facial, a Pilates session or a treatment…
…and somewhere along the way, the conversation opens.
Relationships. Children. Illness. Work. Divorce. Family. Anxiety. Heartbreak. Frustrations. The thing she hasn’t told anyone else yet.
Women share.
And when they feel safe with you, they often share deeply.
It is one of the most beautiful parts of working with people. To create a space where another woman can exhale, soften and simply be herself is a gift.
But there is something we don’t talk about enough.
What happens to your energy when you spend your entire day holding everyone else’s?
You can love your clients without carrying their energy
Have you ever finished a completely normal working day feeling strangely exhausted?
Nothing particularly difficult happened.
You weren’t physically pushed beyond your limits.
And yet you arrive home feeling heavy. Drained. Irritable. Quiet. As though you need everyone to leave you alone for a little while.
Sometimes we absorb far more from the people around us than we realise.
A client arrives carrying something heavy. She talks. She releases. She leaves feeling lighter.
And you move immediately onto the next person.
Then the next.
Then the next.
By the end of the day, you may have listened to ten different stories, felt ten different moods and stepped into ten different emotional worlds.
If you are naturally sensitive, intuitive or empathetic, you may notice this even more.
This is where Obsidian can become such a powerful stone to wear.

Obsidian — your energetic boundary.
Obsidian for Energy Protection and Grounding
Deep, black and beautifully grounding, Obsidian has long been associated with protection, grounding and the release of unwanted energy.
At Soul & Vision, we think of Obsidian as a boundary stone.
Not a wall.
Not something that closes your heart.
But a reminder that you are allowed to decide what enters your energy — and what does not.
You can listen.
You can care.
You can be compassionate.
You can hold space.
Without carrying someone else’s story home with you.
That distinction is everything.
For the women who become everyone’s safe place
There is something incredibly intimate about many female-led professions.
The salon chair.
The treatment bed.
The reformer.
The massage table.
They become places where guards come down.
Perhaps it’s because someone finally has an hour where she isn’t rushing.
Perhaps it’s because she feels cared for.
Perhaps it’s simply that women often instinctively recognise when another woman feels safe.
And suddenly you know about the argument with her husband, the situation at work, the difficult relationship with her mother, what her teenager has done, why she hasn’t been sleeping and the decision she doesn’t know how to make.
You may genuinely love those conversations.
But being trusted with someone’s emotions does not mean those emotions belong to you.
Obsidian is a beautiful reminder of that boundary.
Her story can pass through the room without settling inside you.
How to Wear Obsidian With Intention at Work
Wear it before the first client walks through the door

There is something powerful about choosing your jewellery with intention.
Before your working day begins, put on your Obsidian and take a moment.
Not a complicated ritual.
Just a pause.
Hold it.
Breathe.
And decide what it represents for you.
Today I protect my energy.
I can be present without absorbing.
I can listen without carrying.
I give from a full heart without emptying myself.
Then go about your day.
The bracelet on your wrist or the stone against your skin becomes your reminder.
Every time you notice it, come back to yourself.
Because energy moves in both directions
Those of us who work closely with people often become very conscious of the energy someone brings into a room.
You know the client who arrives and instantly lifts the whole space.
And you know the one who can walk through the door and somehow change the atmosphere before she has even said a word.
We feel each other.
Sometimes subtly.
Sometimes immediately.
You don’t need to judge someone’s energy or decide whether it is "good" or "bad".
Simply recognise:
It is theirs.
And yours is yours.
That awareness alone can completely change the way you move through a busy client-facing day.
Protecting your energy doesn’t make you less caring
This is important.
There can sometimes be a belief — particularly amongst women — that being caring means being endlessly available.
That being kind means taking everything on.
That being empathetic means feeling everything everybody else feels.
It doesn’t.
There is enormous power in remaining soft and protected.
Open and grounded.
Compassionate without becoming depleted.
The strongest boundaries aren't always loud.
Sometimes a boundary is simply an inner knowing:
I can sit beside you in this moment without stepping into it with you.
That is the energy of Obsidian.
Create a tiny reset between clients
If your days are back-to-back, your Obsidian can also become part of a beautiful little reset ritual.
When one client leaves, take a few seconds before welcoming the next.
Touch your bracelet.
Take one breath.
Drop your shoulders.
Feel your feet against the floor.
And mentally let that appointment go.
You don't need to analyse it.
You don't need to carry the conversation forward.
Simply think:
I release what isn't mine.
Then begin again.
Your next client deserves to meet your energy — not an accumulation of everybody who came before her.
And more importantly…
so do you.
And when the working day is finished… leave it there
There is something beautifully symbolic about removing your jewellery at the end of the day.
Your last client leaves.
You close the salon door.
Switch off the studio lights.
Clear your treatment room.
Take off your Obsidian.
And let that be the moment you return fully to yourself.
The conversations stay where they happened.
The emotions you witnessed belong to the people who experienced them.
The working day is complete.
You do not need to take everybody home with you.
A stone for the space-holder
We often think of protection as something hard.
Armour.
Walls.
Keeping people out.
But perhaps true energetic protection is something much softer.
It is knowing yourself deeply enough to recognise what belongs to you.
It is remaining grounded while someone else is emotional.
It is allowing another woman to be seen, heard and supported without losing yourself inside her experience.
It is giving generously while still honouring your own energy.
And for the women whose work means spending their days listening, touching, teaching, treating, nurturing and holding space for others…
Obsidian feels like the perfect companion.
Wear it as your protection.
Wear it as your boundary.
Wear it as your reminder.
I can hold space for you without holding onto you.
Your energy is yours.
My energy is mine.
And when the day is done, I return to myself.
